There are class lines that divide us, but they should not. These lines are so small, we could shave with them. The fact is, everyone is a few short steps from the top of the pyramid to the bottom. That is not say that hard work will not pay off, but that things outside of our control could dictate our social standing. Many of us are one sickness away from losing it all. If we lost our job, we would be a few months away from defaulting on everything.
Yet we look at it as if we “have” while others “have not.”
In reality, what we all have is an obligation to one another to understand that these imaginary lines that separate are indeed imaginary. We do not owe each other a handout, but the simple understanding that we are in this together. Clothe Charlotte seeks a community where we are all citizens of Charlotte and not “haves” or “have nots.” We all live in this city and it is time we fight the chains of injustice together, as one voice. We begin by sharing things like clothes then grow into relationships where we share life together.
As we grow as a force, we will fight the injustices that plague our community. We will fight to rid Charlotte of drug and alcohol abuse, crime, discrimination, and homelessness. This may seem like a pipe dream. It may seem crazy.
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
I believe those who join us are the crazy ones who will change our community. We will see a Charlotte unified that will deny injustice a place at our table.

We are a Non Profit organization that started in 2008 to help Charlotte citizens who found themselves cold in the winter. We help out by collecting coats, knit caps, gloves, scarves and other warm clothes. We continue to serve the community by partnering with the Free Store and helping bring everyone together. We hope to see a Charlotte free of need by working with other like-minded organizations and individuals and focusing on the practices outlined in Charlotte-Mecklenburg's Ten Year Implementation Plan To End And Prevent Homelessness.
